然而，随着6月“反修例”引发的暴力示威活动不断升级，香港的进出口贸易面临进一步下滑的危机。香港7月整体进口货值和出口货值齐齐下跌，同比分别下跌5.7%和3.9%，贸易逆差达322亿港元。
其中，经机场的贸易额占香港进出口贸易总额的42%，空运对香港贸易的重要性不言而喻。但乱港暴徒屡屡非法占领香港机场，导致机场瘫痪。据特区政府运输及房屋局局长陈帆此前披露，机场瘫痪一日，导致航空客运量损失约20万人次，货运量损失超1.3万吨。此外，暴力冲突也发生在各港口码头附近，被暴力示威阻断的货运量不容小觑。
进出口货值双双下跌 出口表现持续疲弱
特区政府早前发出提醒，持续在香港发生的暴力示威事件已经对香港的进出口贸易造成了不良影响。
8月15日，香港财政司司长陈茂波在政府跨部门记者会上表示，“最近的社会事件，大家都看到，我们在各方面都受到影响。近月的情况可以说是更险峻，六月份货物出口下跌了10%；七月的货柜吞吐量和空运货量亦分别下跌9%和7%。”陈茂波认为，香港出口表现会持续疲弱，甚至进一步下滑。
一周后，香港特区政府运输及房屋局局长陈帆8月23日在跨部门记者会上再次指出，经过最近连串公众聚集及暴力事件，香港的国际声誉、航空、旅游、贸易、物流等行业受到严重损害。数据显示，截至8月21日，香港机场8月客运量约为416万人次，减少高达54万人次，较2018年同期下跌超过11%；货运量减少至约25万吨，较2018年同期下跌约14%。
有经营进出口贸易的人士坦言账目出现赤字，生意受到影响。香港跨境电子商务协会监事长、香港物流商会副主席黄鹏8月17日接受南都采访时表示，“不少企业因为不能准时交货而受到客户指责，另外还需要承担额外的延误费用。有些海外客户甚至因此不付运费，出现拖款或赖账等情况。以我自己的公司为例，一日的损失会高达6位数字的港币。”
一家从事转口贸易及跨境电商的企业在8月19日接受央视采访时也吐苦水，称近期香港出现的激进暴力行为，几度造成机场停运、交通堵塞，物流时间的不确定性大大增加。
数据显示，香港7月进出口货值双双下跌。其中，7月整体出口货值同比下跌5.7%，而进口货值同比减少8.7%，相比于6月的7.5%跌幅有所扩大。贸易逆差322亿港元，相当于进口货值的8.7%。2019年前7个月，出口货值同比下跌3.9%，进口货值同比下跌5.1%。
乱港暴徒瘫痪机场
空运货值损失百亿元
香港是亚洲的地区枢纽之一，从香港起飞，5小时内可到达亚洲大部分城市，航程范围覆盖全球一半人口。2018年，香港有38%总出口及45%总进口经由空运处理，空运对于香港贸易的重要性不言而喻。
8月31日，乱港暴徒再次非法占领香港国际机场。数百名乱港分子聚集在机场入口附近，试图阻塞通往机场的路。机场快线及港铁东涌线暂停服务，离机场最近的东涌地铁站于晚间关闭。
9月2日，特区政府运输及房屋局局长陈帆在政府发布会上表示，从9月1日13时起，25个航班被取消，200个航班延误。此前，陈帆曾披露，香港国际机场仅瘫痪一日，航空客运量就损失约20万人次，货运量损失超1.3万吨，80万人生计受影响。
位于大屿山赤鱲角的香港国际机场已经连续八年位列全球货运量最大的机场，拥有5个规模数一数二的货运站，每年可以处理逾700万公吨货物。有9个货柜码头，24个泊位，每年货柜处理能力达2000万个标准货柜(TEU)。2018年，香港国际机场货运量达512万公吨，经机场的贸易额占香港所有进出口贸易总额的42%。
早前，在8月12、13日，乱港分子连续两日在香港国际机场举行非法集会，导致机场瘫痪，逾500班航班取消，货物出入口停顿。据统计，香港机场瘫痪一日会导致空运货值损失101.6亿港元（约91.2亿人民币）。
暴力示威引发的机场瘫痪不仅让人们看到一连串悲观的数据，更让每家企业受到切身的影响。
全球购物网站eBay在8月15日发布公告称，由于近期香港国际机场实施航班重新编配，航班升降受到不同程度影响，提醒卖家注意物流渠道从香港出运状况，以免对商家的帐户表现造成影响。
有物流公司向媒体表示，受到香港机场瘫痪的影响，公司积压了货值近千万的货物。该物流公司在香港机场经营业务十多年，所有资源配备都在香港，受乱港暴徒冲击机场停运的影响，一天就损失近10万元。
对此，七个香港航空系统工会曾在香港多家报纸发表联合声明，谴责发生在香港国际机场的非法示威活动，称其严重影响机场使用者，损害香港的国际形象。联合声明呼吁参与围堵机场行动的人士，停止一切在机场的非法示威活动，不要再以香港的经济命脉作为赌注。
8月14日，香港机场管理局获法庭颁布临时禁制令后，机场开始恢复正常营运。据港媒报道，香港和深圳许多物流商开始加班加点，将之前积压的货物运送出去。
集装箱港口优势减弱
排名跌至第九
香港是一个不淤积的天然深水港，靠近主要海运航道，毗邻内地，位置优越，货源充足，得以成为亚洲的海上运输枢纽。
香港的港口效率也是世界一流水平。香港付货人委员会执行总干事何立基此前向媒体表示，一般来说，到达香港港口的货柜在半天之内可以完成货物装卸和通关，若遇到紧急情况，装卸货物最短只需要半个小时。
高效率意味着香港的港口货物处理数量巨大，不容耽误。但8月25日，数百名乱港分子前往新界葵涌集装箱码头附近的体育场集会示威，游行队伍由17时集合出发，晚上更与警方发生暴力冲突。
公开资料显示，葵涌货柜码头占地庞大，位于下葵涌、青衣及昂船洲一带沿岸，共有9个货柜码头，提供24个泊位。码头全年总处理能力超过1800万个标准货柜单位，2004年，葵涌货柜码头处理的货物总量约为1342万5千个货柜单位。
香港整体货物出口继今年一季度同比下跌3.7%后，第二季度跌幅进一步扩大至5.6%，6月跌幅尤为明显。其中，集装箱吞吐量在2019年上半年，仅处理906万个标准箱（TEU），同比下降8.1%。其全球集装箱港口排名被越南超越，由第八位跌至第九位。同期，深圳和广州以1241万个TEU和1094万个TEU分位列第四和第五位。
与此同时，上海的自由贸易区在8月正进一步升级并扩容。根据国务院印发的《中国（上海）自由贸易试验区临港新片区总体方案》，上海自贸区将在沿海捎带、国际船舶登记、国际航权开放等方面加强探索，提高对国际航线、货物资源的集聚和配置能力。此外，还将允许外籍国际航行船舶利用洋山港作为集装箱航运的中转港。
香港恒生大学决策科学学院副院长黄惠虹博士接受港媒采访时估计，香港可能失去非珠江三角洲地区的所有转运权，这可能导致240万个标准集装箱的损失。
转口贸易在香港的贸易体系至今仍是举足轻重的。香港贸发局数据显示，在中国内地的对外贸易中，有很大部分经香港处理。2017年，内地约有13%的出口货物（总值2850亿美元）及15%的进口货物（2680亿美元）通过香港处理，而香港约有58%的转口货物来自内地。

Since its opening, foreign trade has always been the foundation of Hong Kong's economy. In 1842, Hong Kong was declared a free port to implement the free trade policy. Since then, trade and logistics have gradually become the top four economic pillars of Hong Kong. In 2017, the trade and logistics sector accounted for 22 per cent of Hong Kong's gross domestic product and provided about 720,000 jobs.
However, Hong Kong's import and export trade is in danger of falling further as violent demonstrations over the "anti-amendment law" escalated in June. The value of Hong Kong's overall imports and exports fell in tandem in July, falling 5.7 per cent and 3.9 per cent from a year earlier, leaving a trade deficit of hk $32.2bn.
Among them, the volume of trade through the airport accounts for 42% of Hong Kong's total import and export trade, and the importance of air transport to Hong Kong's trade is self-evident. The Hong Kong government had earlier warned that continued violent demonstrations in the territory had adversely affected Hong Kong's import and export trade.
"Recent social events have affected us in every way, as everyone has seen," Hong Kong financial secretary Paul chan said at an inter-departmental press conference on August 15. In recent months the picture has been even steeper, with exports of goods falling by 10% in June. Container throughput and air cargo volumes also fell by 9% and 7% respectively in July. Mr Chan believes Hong Kong's export performance will remain weak or even fall further.
A week later, the secretary for transport and housing, ms fan chan, said at an interdepartmental press conference on August 23 that Hong Kong's international reputation, aviation, tourism, trade and logistics had been seriously damaged by the recent spate of public gatherings and violence. According to the data, as of August 21, the Hong Kong airport handled about 4.16 million passengers in August, down as much as 540,000 passengers and down more than 11% compared with the same period in 2018. Freight volumes fell to about 250,000 tonnes, down about 14 per cent from the same period in 2018.
People involved in the import and export trade admitted that their business was affected by the deficit in their accounts. "Many companies have been criticized by their customers for not delivering goods on time, and they have to bear the additional cost of delay," wong peng, director of the Hong Kong cross-border e-commerce association and vice chairman of the Hong Kong chamber of commerce logistics, told the southern city on August 17. Some overseas customers do not even pay the freight, appear to delay payment or default and so on. In my own company, for example, the daily loss can be as high as six figures in Hong Kong dollars.
In an interview with China central television on Aug. 19, a company involved in transit trade and cross-border e-commerce also complained about the recent aggressive violence in Hong Kong, which led to several times of airport shutdowns, traffic jams and increased uncertainty about logistics schedules.
Data showed the value of Hong Kong's imports and exports both fell in July. Overall exports fell 5.7 per cent in July from a year earlier, while imports fell 8.7 per cent from a year earlier, accelerating from a 7.5 per cent drop in June. The trade deficit was hk $32.2 billion, or 8.7 percent of the value of imports. In the first seven months of 2019, the value of exports fell 3.9 percent year on year, while the value of imports fell 5.1 percent.

Container port advantage weakened
